We invite you to visit some of the most important and unique archaeological monuments of the country and to learn about the cultural heritage and other secrets, stored in this ancient land, where new discoveries are still waiting to be made.

This program has been developed to offer the opportunity for participants to learn about Georgia, its cultural heritage and unique archaeological monuments. We will visit Dmanisi, a medieval site where archeologists unexpectedly came across the remains of one of the oldest and the most primitive peoples in Eurasia – 1.8 million years old. We will study the archeological excavations at Dzalisi, the second capital of the kingdom of Kartli, where we will see a surprising architectural complex and the burial place of the pioneer settlements, dating from the second millennium BC At Vani, the capital of legendary Colchis, excavations revealed a burnt sanctuary with fire traces, numerous examples of pottery and figures of animals, sacrificial altar, clay vessels, and remains of household objects, weapons and ritual worship accessories. We will also visit such sites as Nokalakevi, the unique political and historical center of western Georgia between 4-6 centuries AD and Uplistsikhe the cave city from the 1st millennium BC.

DAY 1.Arrival in Tbilisi / overnight in Tbilisi


DAY 2. Tbilisi tour / overnight in Tbilisi

You will go on a tour of Tbilisi, a walk through the old town, you can visit Metekhi Church (12 – 13th centuries); district sulfur baths, Sioni Cathedral (7th – 19 th centuries) Narikala Fortress (4th c); Anchishati basilica and bell tower (6th – 18th centuries); Holy Trinity Cathedral – 2004 and visit the house of bread and taste Georgian wine. You will visit the treasury of national museum of Georgia, where you can see the exhibition – “Archaeological Treasure”. The exhibition presents three periods development in the history of Georgian gold work, from the 3rd century BCE to the 4th century CE and exhibition “Georgian Archaeology from 8th millennium BC till 4th century AD”.

You will visit the treasury at the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts. Gold and silver temple rings dating from the 3rd century BCE were found in Sachkhere barrows, and artifacts from Antic-Hellenistic burial mounds were found in the regions of Kazbegi, Akhalgori, Sachkhere, Sairkhe, Uplistsikhe, Modinakhe, Rgani, Chkhari, and Sargveshi. The proliferation of these objects demonstrates proof of early Georgian mastery in metalwork, as well as its close cultural ties with the rest of the ancient world. Overnight in Tbilisi.


DAY 3.Excursion to Dmanisi Museum-Reserve and Sakdrisi/ overnight in Tbilisi

You will visit the Dmanisi Museum-Reserve, 85 km to the southwest of Tbilisi-a unique place featuring stunning discoveries that are rewriting human history and transforming our view of human evolution. Recent finds in Dmanisi represent the oldest evidence of humans discovered outside of Africa, dating back 1.8 million years.

Comprising both the ruins of a medieval city and the prehistoric archaeological site, visitors can enjoy guided tours of the picturesque fortress and ruins that cover the ancient deposits, and watch archaeologists excavate new discoveries. Return to Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.


DAY 4.Excursion to Mtskheta-Dzalisi-Kutaisi/overnight in Kutaisi

In the morning you go to Mtskheta – the old capital of Georgia (3000 years old), Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century).

Dzalisa is one of the most important archeological monuments in the historic kingdom of Kartli (Iberia). The ruins of an ancient city were found in the Village of Dzalisa, in the Mukhrani Valley, 20 km southwest of Mtskheta. The site has been identified as the City of Dzalisa mentioned in the “Geographic Manual” by the Greek geographer Claudius Ptolemy in the second century CE. In the evening arrival to Kutaisi. DAY 5.Kutaisi-Nokalakevi-Vani/overnight in Kutaisi

You will visit such sites as Nokalakevi, the unique political and historical center of western Georgia between 4-6 centuries AD and The Vani Archeological Museum-Reserve. The exhibition covers the period between 800 BCE and 100 CE. Visitors can also see an exhibition presenting the Vani site as a temple-city. This permanent exhibition presents architectural materials and goldwork, as well as unique bronze figures and their fragments. In the evening return to Kutaisi. Overnight in Kutaisi.


DAY 6.Kutaisi-Uphlistsikhe-Ateni-Tbilisi/overnight in Tbilisi

You will visit Bagrat Cathedral and Gelati Monastery (10 – 12th century, Sait UNESCO). Then you will visit Uplistsikhe cave city (1st millennium BC) – one of the main points along the Great Silk Way. In the evening arrival in Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.
