DAY 1.Tbilisi

Arrival in Tbilisi and transfer to hotel. Tbilisi sightseeing tour – the Old Town and the New City. The city offers a wide variety of sights, most of them very ancient. We begin our visit just a few minute walk from the hotel in the compact area of Old Tbilisi. Starting at the church of Metekhi, we walk to the brick domes of sulfur baths and then on to spectacularly located Narikala’s fortress – one of the oldest fortresses in Georgia, overlooking Mtkvari river gorge. After that we visit the synagogue, and the Zion and Anchiskhati churches, which mark the end of the Old Town. After dinner we visit the treasury of the National Museum of Georgia, before walking along Rustaveli Avenue – the main street in Tbilisi. Spend the night in Tbilisi. 


DAY 2. Tbilisi – David Garedzhi – Tsinandali – Telavi

We start from Tbilisi early in the morning and go to the cave complex David Garedzhi located in the semi-desert region east of Tbilisi. After visiting the monastery we drive for about 50 minutes through the desert to take see some remarkable painted caves. Later we go to the beautifully restored manor house of local prince Alexander Chavchavadze to visit the 19th century garden created by his father. The park and house were a meeting place for the poets and artists of the 19th century. Here we visit the historic winery where the remarkable Kakheti wines were made. In the evening we arrive in Telavi, where we spend the night. 


DAY 3.Ground wine

We begin our morning by visiting Gremi, a 16th century architectural complex in the morning and then we go on to Nekresi monastery. We’ll sample local hospitality amidst a warm welcome at a local farmhouse, where we’ll try some tasty home-cooked dishes and local wine. We continue our way to winery to taste some of our European style Georgian wines. Then we will visit the unique 300 year old summer wine cellar where you will learn about Georgian winemaking traditions, which differ quite markedly from European methods, and drink typical Georgian wine directly from clay jugs buried in the ground. Spend the night in Telavi.


DAY 4.Telavi – Mtskheta – Gudauri

Heading back westward, we visit the ancient capital and the religious centre of Georgia – Mtskheta (3000 years old) and see its historical sites: Jvari monastery (6th century) and Svetitskhoveli cathedral (11th century), where it is said, Christ’s shroud is buried. Both Jvari and Svetitskhoveli are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Then we visit the ancient ruins of the city and drive north towards the Northern Caucasus along the well-known Georgian Military Road. On the way we visit Ananuri – a 17th century architectural complex. Spend the night in Gudauri’s ski resort (2200m).


DAY 5.Gudauri - Kazbegi- Gudauri

An exciting drive from Gudauri along the Terek River will take us to Kazbegi – the main town in the region. From Kazbegi a slow 2 hour walk through beautiful valleys and woods brings us to Gergeti Trinity church located at 2170m. in good weather you can see for a moment one of the highest glaciers in the Caucasus – the mountain Kazbegi (5047m). We go back to the town, and before returning to Gudauri, we visit a felt exhibition in the local village. We spend a second night in Gudauri’s ski resort (2200m).


DAY 6.Gudauri - Gori - Bakuriani

In the morning we drive to Gori – heart of Kartli, and visit historical landmarks; the Joseph Stalin Museum and Uplistsikhe cave city (1st millennium BC) – one of the main points along the Great Silk Way. From Gori we continue to the Meskheti region, travelling through woody hills and rocky mountains in Bakuriani ski resort, through Borjomi – well known for its Mineral water. Spend the night in the mountain resort of Bakuriani.


DAY 7.Bakuriani - Vardzia - Bakuriani

Morning trip to Vardzia. The magnificent 12th century cave city of Vardzia is one of the main attractions of the trip. On the way we also visit the 10th century Khertvisi fortress, the 7th century cave monastery Vaniskvabebi, Rabat castle, the Atskuri fortress and church. Returning to spend a second night in Bakuriani. 


DAY 8.Bakuriani - Kutaisi

In the morning we go to the Imereti region in the Western part of Georgia – well-known land of the Golden Fleece where Jason and the Argonauts sailed. We’ll visit the beautiful city of Kutaisi, second-largest in the country, with 3000 years of history. Here we will visit Bagrati’s magnificent Cathedral, a top of the hill above the ancient capital Kutaisi, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating from the 11th century, and a natural grotto. Spend the night in Kutaisi. 


DAY 9.Kutaisi - Mestia

A visit to Gelati Cathedral – (12th century) – one of the earliest religious academies in Europe (UNESCO World Heritage site) in the morning, and then continue to Svaneti – the most fascinating part of our trip, region of the highest mountains and glaciers and strictest observance of ancient traditions. On the way we will visit Lendzheri church painted both inside and out, and when we arrive in Mestia, chief of the region, we will visit a traditional Svan house and watchtower. Spend the night in Mestia. 


DAY 10.Mestia - Ushguli

Three hours journey will bring us to the highest constantly inhabited village in Europe – Ushguli (2200m). Ushguli and Upper Svaneti in general is another UNESCO World Heritage site. The village is the particularly noted for its abundance of medieval watchtowers and its view of the highest mountain in Georgia – Mtn. Shkhara (5068m). in Ushguli we visit Lamary church (12th century), and then climb on a hill to the QueenTamar’s tower. In the evening we come back to Mestia where we spend a second night.


DAY 11.Mestia - Batumi

We descend from the mountains of the Greater Caucasus to subtropical palm tree coasts, citron groves and tea plantations. On the way we will visit Inguri Hydroelectric power station, and then Dadiani palace (the Georgian prince) in Zugdidi. In the evening we arrive in Batumi and there we spend the night.


DAY 12.Batumi

In the morning we visit a personal ethnographic collection, and the botanical garden. We continue our way to Gonio fortress, dating from the 1st century AD, which features in the myth of Jason and the Argonauts. Later we visit an ethnographic museum and you will have some free time to explore. Spend a second night in Batumi.


DAY 13. Departure from Batumi
