The Armenian Genocide museum is located on Armenia's official memorial complex, Tsitsernakaberd, high on a hill overlooking the capital. An important landmark for the country, this museum is a must-see for those interested in learning more about Armenia's tragic past that occurred just one century ago.
With twelve halls inside the main exhibition area, visitors are introduced in an honest and informative way to the shocking events that took place against the Armenian people under the guise of World War I. During the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the museum underwent extensive renovations and, for the first time in Armenia, introduced new ways of sharing the individual and collective stories of those affected during that time through new technologies including interactive touchscreen guides and projector presentations. One of the most moving parts of this entire complex is the museum's circular Memorial Sanctuary, separate from the main exhibition. With its twelve inward-leaning slabs of stone standing as a symbol of mourning, the monument is pulled together with an eternal flame at its center to remember the victims of the Genocide.
