As the only museum in the world that’s dedicated to miniature editions of books, the Miniature Books Museum in Baku is definitely a must-visit for book lovers of all kinds. The books are Zarifa Salahova’s private collection, which she collected for a period of over 30 years. There are more than 6,500 books in the museum coming from 64 different countries. Opened in 2002, Salahova opened the museum to the public to help promote childhood literacy.
The Miniature Books Museum includes books that were published during the post-revolutionary Russia era and the Soviet period. There are also rare editions including the works of A.S. Pushkin, Chukovsky, Dostoyevsky, and Barto. One of the most notable miniatures in the collection is the 17th-century copy of the Quran. Visitors can also view ancient and rare religious books in the museum, as well as books dedicated to the life of famous personalities, including the former US President Barack Obama.
