The Modern Art Museum of Yerevan was formed in 1972 through the efforts of Henrik Igityan, a famous Armenian painter who also served as the museum’s director for 37 years. Located in the central part of Yerevan, the museum is home to an impressive collection of contemporary and modern art in the Soviet Union era.
The first collection in the Modern Art Museum of Yerevan came from the works of famous Armenian artists in the 1960s. Nowadays, the museum houses numerous displays of interesting contemporary art pieces, which were kept as donations from several local artists. Recently, the museum added works from famous artists around the world, such as Taline Zabounian of France and Sam Grigoryan of Germany.
