Pheasant’s Tears Cellar
The Pheasant’s Tears winery is located in Sighnaghi “Town of Love” and produces artisanal wines fermented in Qvevri, according to ancient Georgian traditions. The winery was founded in 2007 by John Wurdeman and Gela Patalishvili. The name “Pheasant’s Tears” is connected to a Georgian tale in which only the very best wines are good enough to make a pheasant cry of joy. Slightly different techniques are used to make each of the wines. Some have moderate skin contact, others have minimal. As representatives of Pheasants Tears say, it’s not just a winery, but traditional songs, cuisine, art, heritage and Georgian soul- these are what make wine so special and unique. All of our wines at Pheasant’s Tears are fermented and aged in Qvevri, a unique Georgian vessel used to ferment and store wine. Pheasant’s Tears keeps Georgian old winemaking traditions and is ready for innovation too, several of 2009 varietals are being bottled for the first time in over a hundred years. Visiting Pheasant’s Tears you can taste amazing wines, enjoy Georgian folk music and dance and of course visit Georgian cuisine restaurant “Crazy Pomegranate”.
