Lori Region
Lori marz is the most populated region of Armenia. It stands out due to its comparably humid climate and woods – 30% of it is comprised of forests. This area is very rich in copper and other metals, thus once it was a developed industrial centre. The devastating earthquake of 1988 caused much damage to the industry of this region. The centre of Lori is Vanadzor city which is the 3rd largest city in Armenia after Yerevan and Gyumri. Lori marz is famous for historical and cultural sites, among which there are two medieval monasteries of Haghpat and Sanahin.
