Haghartsin Monastery
Haghartsin Monastery
Haghartsin Monastic complex just like the rest of Armenian monasteries is situated in a hard-to-reach area – to get there you need to turn away from the main road, and you will find it hidden in the trees. Once it was a powerful medieval spiritual center with nearly 300 monks living there. Most obviously the monastery was founded in the 10-11th centuries, and now it consists of three churches, a refectory, a chapel and numerous khachkars (cross-stones). The monastery is very rich in inscriptions due to which we get information about religious, cultural political and economic life. Surrounded by forests, the monastery is located in a picturesque and serene place.
