The Palace of Shirvanshahs
The Palace of Shirvanshahs is located in the old city of Baku – Icheri Sheher. Icheri Sheher is the oldest and the most interesting part of Baku. Icheri Sheher became the capital city of Shirvan in the 14th century, soon in the 15th century the Shirvanshahs built stunning palace for their dynasty. Shirvanshahs kingdom ruled territory of Azerbaijan in 861 — 1538.
The Palace of Shirvanshahs is unique architectural landmark, it is known as “The pearl of Azerbaijan Architecture” and is among World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Now it’s announced as the museum and you can see amazing exhibits of that epoch there: jewelry made for women and horses, things own by Shirvanshahs and other famous people.
Palace was surrounded by the walls, walls were protecting this area from the enemy warriors.
The Palace of Shirvanshahs was not built as a complex, it is main building with added sections. It comprises of a palace building, two mosques, mausoleum of the king Khalilullah buried with his mother and sons, bath house called “Hamam”, east gate known as Murad’s Gate, stone friezes and Sufi philosopher and scientist Sayid Yahya Bakuvi’s mausoleum.
