Drive to South Georgia, Samtskhe -Javakheti region. On the way, you will pass amazing, but very different nature in Georgia - Javakheti volcanic plateau, located up to 2,000 meters above the sea level. The difference from the other parts of Georgia is that the landscape here is almost empty. You won’t find a forest here. That is why the climate here is one of the coldest and harshest in Georgia. After a 4-hour drive, you arrive at Vardzia Cave town, a very impressive historical-cultural monument, founded in 12th century. It has 13 floors and hundreds of rooms, halls and churches. It is a huge complex made in rocks.
The next destination will be the Rabati fortress in the city of Akhaltsikhe. It is a huge historical-cultural complex, where you can see different cultural and religious buildings brought together. In the 16th century, before the Russia-Turkey war, Akhaltsikhe was the regional administrative center of Ottomans Empire.
