Description

Georgia has a unique and ancient cultural heritage and is famed for its traditions of hospitality and cuisine. Georgia is also known as the cradle of wine. This fact is known by 8000 years old archeological findings of grape pips inside antique clay pots. And, to add to this, it is also the land of the first human beings in Europe.

Tbilisi offers a wide variety of sights, most of them very ancient.

During this tour, you will visit the ancient capital of Georgia – Mtskheta, 20 km from Tbilisi. Here you will see outstanding UNESCO heritage monuments like the Jvari monastery of VII c., where the beautiful view on the confluence of two rivers, Mtkvari and Aragvi are seen from, and the Svetitskhoveli cathedral of XI c – the architectural masterpiece of the Georgian Renaissance.

This tour also offers you historical castles and churches. Rabati fortress is from the 9th century, but buildings date from the 17th to 18th centuries. Rabati is unique because of the contrast between Georgian and Turkish cultures. You will explore Georgian towers and churches, Turkish mosques, and houses in that fortress. Vardzia is a literary town in Rock. People who lived there had every little thing necessary for a place to call a city. In Vardzia, you will explore even wineries in rock, big halls, and churches. Vardzia was built in the 13th century.

Sulfur baths - Chreli Abano located at the eastern bank of the Mtkvari River at the foot of Narikala fort across Metekhisubani, Abanotubani is an important historic part of the city — the place, where according to a legend the King of Iberia, Vakhtang Gorgasali’s falcon fell, leading to a discovery of the hot springs and, subsequently, to the founding of new capital.

Narikala’s fortress - is nowadays the leading sighting among the most visited places in Tbilisi by tourists. Narikala Fortress draws your attention from all sides of Tbilisi, you can notice it from almost every part of Tbilisi. In Georgian sources, it is called “Mother Fortress”. Narikala offers you some of the best panoramas of the city. This is an ancient symbol of Tbilisi’s defensive brilliance. You will get there by cable car.

Jean Chardin Street -the street was named after the famous French traveler and now it is the most popular place for the citizens and tourists where they can have a rest in bars and restaurants.

The monument is very vivid and colorful, however, most of its beauty is thanks to the location. Rock-cut complexes forms integrate part of the landscape. Rock-cut structures of the nominated site have preserved interiors and planning type, which have not reached us in the samples of built architecture. This is especially vivid in the samples of vernacular architecture, monk cells, subsidiary and public structures. Rock-cut monuments preserved in Vardzia-Khertvisi gorge comprise quite vast chronological limits - from the 8th-9th cc. up to 15th-16th cc. They make to possible to trace development of the type from simple caves up to grand, multi-tiered complexes. This gorge has preserved rock-cut villages with the unique samples of dwellings, minor and great monastic complexes, with the masterpieces of the medieval mural painting, as well as epigraphical monuments containing important historical records.

Also, that we can visit Vanis Kvabebi which was a monastery in the 7th century. The monastery complex provides spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. (the way is difficult - 2 km by walk, we will see this amazing monastery only by your wish).
