Vardzia and Uplistsikhe are literary towns in rock. People who lived there had every little thing which is necessary for a place to call it a town. In Vardzia you will explore even wineries in rock, big halls, churches. Vardzia was built in 13th century but Uplistsikhe is older, from early Iron Age. You will explore how ancient people used to live in caves and you will be surprised when you explore how well structured those caves are. Furthermore, you will visit Paravani lake which is one of the most beautiful lakes in Georgia, you will also visit Borjomi, one of the richest part with its unique nature and you will walk around in Borjomi Park, which offers you waterfalls, lots of kind of trees and plants and natural gas water which is taken directly from the ground in front of your eyes and you will have a opportunity to taste it. This tour also offers you historical castles and churches. Rabathi fortress is from 9th century, but there are buildings dated from 17th – 18th centuries. Rabathi is unique because of a contrast of Georgian and Turkish cultures. In that fortress you will explore Georgian towers and churches, Turkish mosque and houses. Besides, you will visit Mtskheta which is old capital city of Georgia and it is called Second Jerusalem because of the sanctities which are placed in that city. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Jvari Monastery – those two places are very important for whole Christian world. A robe of Jesus Christ is kept in Svetitskhoveli.
Drive to South Georgia, Samtskhe -Javakheti region. On the way, you will pass amazing, but very different nature in Georgia - Javakheti volcanic plateau, located up to 2,000 meters above the sea level. The difference from the other parts of Georgia is that the landscape here is almost empty. You won’t find a forest here. That is why the climate here is one of the coldest and harshest in Georgia. Here you will see beautiful lakes: Paravani and Sagamo lakes.
After a 4-hour drive, you arrive at Vardzia Cave town, a very impressive historical-cultural monument, founded in 12th century. It has 13 floors and hundreds of rooms, halls and churches. It is a huge complex made in rocks.
The next destination will be the Rabati fortress in the city of Akhaltsikhe. It is a huge historical-cultural complex, where you can see different cultural and religious buildings brought together. In the 16th century, before the Russia-Turkey war, Akhaltsikhe was the regional administrative center of Ottomans Empire.
Finally, you check in at a hotel in Akhaltsikhe.
After breakfast, we will drive to Borjomi – one of the main mountain resorts in Georgia, a beautiful location deep in the forests and mountains. Here you will visit beautiful Borjomi Park, and taste famous Georgian mineral water “Borjomi” directly from the natural source. After an hour drive, we will arrive at Uplistsikhe Cave Town (1st millennium B.C.). It is an ancient cave city on the Silk Road. Then you will arrive in the old capital city Mtskheta, where we will visit UNESCO world heritage sites: Svetitskhoveli cathedral (11th century) and Jvari monastery (6th century). Finally, you will arrive in Tbilisi and we will transfer you to your hotel.
