Soviet Occupation Exhibition Hall

16 July 2019

    3/10 Shota Rustaveli Ave

10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, closed on Mondays

The Soviet Occupation hall is one part of the Georgian National museum, which is conveniently located on Rustaveli Avenue, the central point of Tbilisi. Located on the fourth floor, this exhibition hall takes visitors back to the historical events that took place between 1921 and 1991, the period Georgia spent under the Soviet Union.

While it showcases a variety of memorabilia used and seen throughout the decades, the exhibit's main draw is its honest presentation of the difficult and sometimes brutal events that many Georgians -- both public figures and everyday citizens -- experienced under the regime. Visitors get the chance to learn about the various forms of political and cultural repression from the perspective of a number of individuals who faced these troubling times directly.

Come to learn more about the not-so distant history of the long-standing Georgian people through personal stories of recent generations.
